
Dr. Wade Smith attended First Baptist as a student at the University of Oklahoma in the mid-1980s. Following graduation from OU, Wade served two years as a Journeyman Missionary in Panama. After returning to the United States, he began his seminary education and served the Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow as youth minister. He graduated from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth in 1992 and began doctoral studies at Baylor University that same year. While in Waco, Wade served as the Minister to Youth and Students at the First Baptist Church of Waco. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Christian Ethics in 1998. The opportunity to pastor came in 2002 when Wade was called to Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro, Texas. In April 2007 he was called to serve as First Baptist Norman's fifth pastor in almost 80 years. He began his ministry at First Baptist in June 2007. Wade is excited to be back in Norman and to be a part of First Baptist again. He believes the Lord has a bright future for First Baptist as she continues to minister and serve the people of our community and world.
Wade and Gay married in 1990 and have been blessed with 4 children—Morgan, Jennifer and Alyssa (twins), and Wilson. Gay is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and has taught special education. When not at church, Wade enjoys being at home with his family, attending OU sporting events, and playing an occasional round of golf.
