Here at First Baptist Church Norman, we are halfway through an exciting and fruitful season of Upward Basketball. FBC began hosting Upward a little over 10 years ago, and I have had the opportunity to watch players grow in their basketball skills as well as their relationships with Christ. This program offers a chance for all children to come into a safe environment to learn the game of basketball from great coaches and staff. This season we have a record high number of players ranging from Kindergarten up to Eighth grade.
Upward is an important program to me because it reaches out to all types of families and children. During practices and games we always incorporate a devotional time to share God’s love, which I believe is the main purpose of Upward Basketball. Even though I can’t feel my legs after a long game-day, it is always rewarding to see the children improve their game, have fun with their friends, and most importantly, strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ. We have been truly blessed to be a part of the Upward ministry, and I intend to seek this program’s full potential in our community, and hope the Holy Spirit can flow freely in the lives of all its participants.
If you're free on a Saturday, come anytime between 8:30 and 5:30. It's fun to watch as children and their parents learn to love God and basketball, even if only a little bit more. If you're nice, we'll even give you the white star for most Christlike!
