What do you call yours?

Posted by Vickie Riggs on

I called mine, PawPaw and Grandma, Granny and Grandpa.

I have noticed that Grandparents will answer to any name as long as their grandchildren are the ones calling. No matter what you call them, they are unique and wonderful creatures! We are their legacy. They shape our lives.

This summer during our Nanas and Grampies Adventures I observed grandparents getting up close and personal with camels, building creative projects with Legos, riding that one favorite ride just one more time, eating ice cream as an appetizer to a meal, and seeing big smiles as their grandchild asked them to watch as they jumped in the pool again, again and again. That is what they do. They love us unconditionally, and we love them!

A few weeks ago I listened to a grown man honor his grandfather at a memorial service. Through tears and deep sighs, he painted a picture of his Grandad. This was a picture that was unique to him. Grandparents and Grandchildren are quite a combination. Their relationship is full of joy, excitement and free spirit. And each one thinks the other is the best thing since sliced bread. They are about touching each other’s life and making memories together.

This summer our Adults 55+ Ministry sponsored several events especially designed for Grandparents and Grandchildren. We went to the Oklahoma Children’s Theatre, a camel and donkey farm, a train trip, a visit to Legoland and explored Sealife Aquarium. Plan now to be part of Nanas and Grampies in 2016 and make some memories!
