The Book of Isaiah has been called the “Fifth Gospel” by some because of its detailed and accurate prophecy that is fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The prophet Isaiah offers four songs to introduce and foreshadow the new thing that God will do to bring salvation to the world. Through these Servant Songs, Isaiah develops the possibility of a new kind of Messiah, a Messiah that will serve and suffer for His people. This Suffering Servant will bear the sins of the world and bring salvation not only to God’s People but to the Peoples of the World. And while death and suffering is the fate of the Suffering Servant, He will ultimately be exalted and lifted high by God.
