Dr. Wade Smith

Senior Pastor

pastorwade@fbcnorman.org

Pastor Wade's journey began as a military kid, moving around the country and experiencing life in places like California, Maine, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana. In 1976, his family settled in Broken Arrow, where he began wrestling with a call to ministry during high school. This process of discernment continued at the University of Oklahoma, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Letters, graduating in 1986.

After completing his undergraduate studies, he served  two  years as a Journeyman Missionary in Panama with the Foreign Mission Board. Continuing his education, he earned a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages from Southwestern Seminary in 1992, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Theology from Baylor University in 1998.

Throughout his college years and until 2002, Pastor Wade held positions as a Youth and Student Minister. In 2002, he was called to be the pastor of Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro, Texas. Then, in June 2007, he and his family relocated to Norman, Oklahoma, to pastor at FBC Norman, where he had previous ties as a member during his undergraduate years.

Pastor Wade has been happily married to his wife, Gay, a teacher at Madison Elementary in Norman, for 35 years. Together, they have raised four children and now enjoy being the grandparents of a young grandson. As a cancer survivor, Pastor Wade holds profound gratitude for the prayers and support he received from the First Baptist family in their support for him and his family during such a challenging time in his life. The Smith family is grateful to be part of the First Baptist and Norman community, where they share their love and service.

In Pastor Wade's free time, he enjoys attending sporting events at his alma mater, OU, traveling, playing golf, and often being found at the FBC Family Life Center engaging in a game of pickleball.
